SWEDISH SUMMER!
July 24-30
Scandinavia is a defining force in 20th century arts, architecture and design; indeed, Sweden has been a trendsetter in everything from household objects and furniture to textiles and glass. And Stockholm – one of Europe’s most beautiful and well-kept secrets – is high up in “most gorgeous cities in the world” – at its full splendor in the summer. This is an island city with water views galore; stunning1600’s architecture immaculately preserved; gardens; fabulous, diverse museums and cutting-edge cultural life. Stockholm exudes a sense of welcome and human scale. Totally surrounded by clear water, the quaysides, inlets and unspoiled countryside stretch right into the heart of the urban area with boats and flowers everywhere. Add to this the contemporary impact of the Scandinavian design tradition and you’ve got a country that is a pure delight to travel in – an aesthetic treat! An additional highlight is our excursion out of the city to rural “glassblowing territory” where we’ll meet one of Sweden’s most exiting contemporary glass artists. We are also fortunate to have noted sculptor and jeweler, Daniel Jocz, as our resident design guru. Dan will host a mini design workshop as a small “chorus” to the trip, enabling us each to have a more visceral appreciation of the design process – no artistic background necessary! Lodging right on the water with fabulous views at the Villa Kallhagen. Rooms double occupancy, private baths.
