JOURNEY to the HIGH SOUTHWEST
Canyon Country! of New Mexico - Arizona - Utah
April 25-May 2 • July 13-20
The U.S. Canyon Country is, in itself, a tour-de-force. This majestic landscape and the supremely creative Native American peoples who reside here, combine to make both an exotic cultural and adventurous travel experience. This unique trip journeys to remote corners of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah – the stunning mesas, rivers, cliffs and canyons that are still almost untouched by tourism. Here is a region that houses an awesome array of Native American artistic talent in a wealth of media; a region that houses archaeological treasures dating back to the fifth century AD; a region whose natural beauty is nothing short of spectacular (it is no surprise that 6 national parks are within this vast territory). Amidst these grand vistas you'll meet some of our most preeminent Hopi, Navajo and Pueblo jewelers, weavers, potters, kachina carvers and basket makers in their kitchens and backyards where pots are made, sheep are sheared, looms are warped. We are privileged to gain an intimate insight into the gorgeous art that the NEW YORK TIMES recently lauded as " one of the world’s major longterm artistic traditions" - all with a small group and in a setting that is meaningful and interpersonal. Our week is also enhanced by visits to several notable trading posts representing the finest in Indian art, each with its own unique history and still run by traders whose families were part of the western settlement of our country over a century ago. From Santa Fe, to Georgia O’Keefe Country, to Valley of the Gods, to Canyon de Chelly and much more…. Join us in a unique American experience! SUMMER WEATHER: Don't confuse High Southwest weather with the Phoenix area — the former enjoys warm, dry days and good sleeping weather (much of the area is at a high altitude, with a warm, but comfortable summer climate). Rooms double occupancy, private baths in lovely and historic hotels.
